Rameshwaram Trip….

Published by Piyush Gupta at 2:29 pm under Chennai Days, Personal, Travel

Last weekend we went to Rameshwaram, Maduri and trichy. It was really a very gud experience being there and feel close to god. we started from chennai on 29th December in train to Rameshwaram.Train dropped us at rameshwaram around  6 AM in morning.First step at rameshwaram station I was feeling like what a place is this (Actually Railway Station looks like some set of 70’s Hindi movie). From there we hired an auto and directly went into town searching for a hotel. But all the hotels were booked and finally after 2 hours of search we got some so so hotel at very high price of Rs.600. But we dont have any other choice so we decided to check in. After being relaxed for half an hour we changed the clothes and ready to go to the dham (temple).

There is a standard procedure for pooja. First you have to go sea beach and take bath than without changing your clothes you enter into the temple and there are 22 kund (ponds). You have to take bath with water of every kund and every kund water tastes different. After that you went into the temple. It was really a big fun doing all this big procedure :) and moreover all our tiredness was gone.

From there we went to some more places in Rameshwaram. There are about 5-6 more places to visit and we hired one auto for seeing all those places. Firstly we went to some temple. From there we decided to go to Dhanushkoti(The South end of India) but auto was not agreed to go there because the place is totally destroyed by a cyclone in 1964 and there is no road to went there but he agreed to take us to as much near as much he can. We went to somewhere near to dhanushkoti and there I have enjoyed with silence of nature and sea. From there we went to other places in rameshwaram. Finally we came back to hotel room around 4 PM.

Now we were planning to either go to maduri and stay there or move to maduri early morning and stay in rameshwaram that night, and we decided to stay.
Early morning on 31st we hired the sumo and moved to maduri. The way was too gud and we basically did timepass with playing cards. We reached maduri around 10AM morning and went to the most famous Meenaxi temple. Meenaxi temple is really huge one temple and really too much big we got tired just after completing around 30-40% of the temple, also we have to leave for trichy on same day so we decided to move. From meenaxi temple we moved to some more places in maduri basically temples and one museum.
We left maduri in evening around 5PM and take bus for trichy. We reached trichy around 9PM and checked in a hotel around 10.We relaxed for some time and went for dinner. After dinner we were thinking what to do on New Year eve as there was nothing to do at all. We celebrated new year with some pepsi and snacks and suddenly everyone’s phones rings up for wishes from their friends. Next morning we hired a cab to travel trichy. There are some very gud temple at trichy also. I like the Rock ford temple, it have 437 stairs to reach the main temple.  ;)
In evening we left trichy for Chennai and reached Chennai next day morning and back to work. :)

All in all it was really very gud trip and I enjoyed a lot with my friends it was much much better trip than my expectations.

    Dear Piyush,

It was great to read your experience.
I have been wanting to visit Rameshwaram for over 4 years now
and every time I go to Chennai, I find myself visiting Chennai and coming back but this time I will sure go.

Is there a travel Agent in Chennai, which can arrange all?
I dont think that I will be able to make the trip the ways you did.
Thanks for putting this on the site.
